I spotted this on the Holloway Road this week.
Well we have just had a recession. So I guess some businesses may be stationary. But I don’t suppose this is what they are talking about.                                              Â
Come on people. This is a schoolboy error. The easiest way to remember the difference:Â stationers (with an E) sell stationery (also with an E). Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â

Since I was told this tip when I was a child, I’ve always remembered that there is the letter ‘e’ in ‘stationery’ because ‘envelope’, an item of stationery, starts with one.
Yep, good one Shane. I learnt to spell ‘necessary’ at school by learning ‘no elephant can eat spam sandwiches and raspberry yoghurt’. I still sometimes say it in my head as I’m writing!
It’s amazing how many mistakes like that you see in shop windows. Seems more disturbing somehow when it’s an otherwise professionally produced poster, not just a handwritten sign for “potato’s” or something. I always like mnemonics, but have never come across the spam-eating elephant before – that sounds harder to remember than the word itself :-)
LOL. As a kid my Mum taught me Mrs M Mrs I Mrs SSI Mrs SSI Mrs PPI so I could remember how to spell Mississippi. Although it’s not something I use on a daily basis!
